I love Me Made May! If you aren’t familiar with this wonderful month that celebrates garment sewing, head over to So Zo’s blog to read all about the global sewing celebration and how you can participate.
This year, I pledged to wear at least one me-made garment a day and sew four new garments. In addition, I’m documenting each me-made ensemble on Instagram daily and posting weekly wrap-ups here. Like many other sewists, I am hoping that this month of focusing on my me-mades will not only celebrate garment sewing, but also help me identify gaps in my wardrobe for more strategic future sewing.
Here is week one’s wrap-up:
Tuesday, May 1
Ready-to-wear top and Sewaholic Hollyburn skirt made without pockets due to a lack of yardage.
Wednesday, May 2
Another Sewaholic make! For a long day of teaching, I chose a Sewaholic Belcarra Blouse and ready-to-wear pants.
Thursday, May 3
Friday, May 4
New Look 0119 gingham skirt modified with a light cotton lining and pockets. This is a very old make and the zipper in the back is a bit wonky at the top, but I wear it all the time in summer anyway. The pattern is out of print, but you may be able to find it on Etsy. I paired it here with a Ralph Lauren knit top.
Saturday, May 5
I love throwing on a dress for the weekend. It’s so easy- no matching necessary! I went to a car show and brunch with my guy in this Seamwork Magazine Adelaide dress.
Sunday, May 6
My husband and I both had a lot of work related tasks to accomplish on Sunday, so we hung out at home for most of the day hunched over our laptops. I wore all handmade in Closet Case Patterns Ginger Jeans and a Valentine and Stitch Dune tank top. It appears the Valentine and Stitch website is no longer online. It’s such a shame since this tank is a great pattern.
I’m considering my first week a success. I liked what I wore each day and feel energized to continue wearing me-mades during week two. I also loving seeing what everyone else is wearing on Instagram. The fairly new hashtag follow feature allows me to see all the #mmmay18 posts and has been a great way to find new-to-me sewists and patterns. As a result, my pattern wish list is getting a bit out of control…
How is your Me Made May pledge going so far? Are you enjoying May as much as I am?
