Sew My Style 2018 is here!
Hosted by Jessica at jessicalorraine.com, Sew My Style is an annual online sewing challenge promoting the creation of handmade wardrobes. An indie pattern is selected for each month of the year. Patterns selected are wardrobe builders- tops, pants, and jackets that can be worn regularly. The goal is to grow your wardrobe with garments you will wear proudly and often. As a bonus, prizes are awarded at the end of each month based on photos of final garments.
Last year, I debated participating, but I felt the patterns weren’t really my style. I sat it out.
This year, most of the patterns are reflective of my personal style and wardrobe needs, so I’m going to participate. Where patterns don’t feel right for me, I will make substitutions.
Here’s the official plan:
I will make the following changes:
I don’t need another coat now that I live in Florida. There are several in my closet that am worried will rot on their hangers now that I live in a place where winter lasts about three days. I do, however, have a light weight coat I started working on years ago that I want to buckle down and finish. Thus, my February make is going to be the Anise Jacket by Colette Patterns. Most of it is done. Still left is inserting the lining and finishing the jacket (buttons, button holes, etc.).
I really like the Halifax Hoodie, but don’t think I’ll wear it often enough to make the sew worth the time and effort. At this point, I’m undecided which pattern I’ll make in it’s place. Any suggestions?
Anyone else participating?
I’d love to hear if you are sewing all the patterns as proposed or are making substitutions.
Cheers to wonderful sewing adventures in 2018!
